Endocrine System Lab Exercise

Histology of the Endocrine Glands

This exercise will introduce you to the normal and pathologic microanatomy of the endocrine glands.

First observe the normal microanatomy from Bergman, Afifi, & Heidger, Atlas of Microscopic Anatomy, Endocrine Glands.

Read the introductory page, and then flip through each plate (15.279–15.296), studying the image and reading the accompanying text.

Next, go to the endocrine pathology index page viewing each example. Flip back and forth between normal and pathologies to appreciate the differences.

Finally, try out two or three of these endocrinology quizzes:

Histology Test Bank

Histology Testbank: Endocrine System Test 1
Histology Testbank: Endocrine System Test 2
Histology Testbank: Endocrine System Test 3
Histology Testbank: Endocrine System Test 4
Histology Testbank: Endocrine System Test 5
Histology Testbank: Endocrine System Test 6
Histology Testbank: Endocrine System Test 7

With the closure of the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, the introduction to endocrine pathology linked from Jim Martindale’s Virtual Medical Center no longer exists.
You should still bookmark his site, though, as it is a treasure trove of resources.

Finally, take the endocrine histology quiz.
There is nothing you need to submit; just review the material before attempting the final practical.
